General information

Venue

The workshop will take place at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). It is located between the Metro stations Saldanha and Alameda on the Red Line (see here for a metro map or plan your trip).

The conference venue is the Anfiteatro Abreu Faro in the Complexo Interdisciplinar. You can locate it on Google Maps here, it is building #26 on the site map.

Travelling to Lisbon

Lisbon Airport (LIS) is served by a large number of airlines with daily direct flights from North and South America, Africa, all large Asian connection hubs and from most main cities in Europe.

The airport is located close to the city center and connected by the Metro (Red line). In the Metro station you can buy a rechargeable card and add single fares to it (one fare is 1,50€). If you take a taxi, a ride to the city center should cost around 10€.

Accommodation

Below you can find a list of hotels which are in walking distance to the conference venue. Since this is a busy week due to the Santo António festival, we recommend that you make your hotel reservations at your earliest convenience.

We have secured a number of rooms with special rates for a limited period, which are only available for bookings made by email or phone. You will need a credit card and might be asked for an ID. Please mention that you are staying for the workshop "Strong Interactions in Lisbon" at the IST (Instituto Superior Técnico) and indicate the promotional code ST2020.

Meals

Although we will provide the coffee breaks, the lunches and dinners are not organized but there are a number of restaurants near Técnico. Further information will be provided on arrival.

Social events

We plan to organize a workshop dinner as well as a social event on Wednesday afternoon.

If you would like to experience a typical flavor of Lisbon, we encourage you to stay for the Santo António festival which takes place in the weekend of June 12 - 14. It is famous for its colorful parades through the historic neighborhoods and its long nights of grilled sardines, music and dancing in the streets.

Weather

The weather in June is usually warm and sunny (you can find a forecast here). Remember to bring your sunscreen. Also, make sure to bring shoes with a good grip since Lisbon is a hilly city and the cobblestones can be slippery.
