Geant4 is a Monte Carlo simulation toolkit for particle transport widely used in high-energy physics, medical physics or material science, among others.

The LIP competence centre on Simulation and Big Data organizes the first edition of an introductory course on Geant4. The objectives are to present the general concepts and to work on a few example applications, following a hands-on interactive approach.

The course is directed at motivated advanced undergraduate students, graduate students and willing researchers with diverse backgrounds.

Editions of this course in Coimbra and Lisbon are also envisaged during 2020.

Registration

The period for registration is open until the 24th of January.

The registration is free of charge. However, the number of participants will be limited to the available capacity.

Pre-requisites

The participants are required to bring a laptop. A basic knowledge of Monte Carlo simulation techniques and programming is useful. Preparatory materials with instructions for installing and running Geant4, as well as a tutorial on the C++ language, will be shared in advance.
