Description
The Directorate-General for Territory (DGT) plays a pivotal role in producing, cataloguing, and sharing official geographic information in Portugal. With the exponential growth in the volume of highly complex geospatial datasets—such as high-resolution orthophotos, satellite images and, more recently, dense point clouds from mainland Portugal’s LiDAR survey—implementing an infrastructure capable of supporting the required data storage, processing, and efficient data distribution has become imperative.
This communication will present the new DGT data sharing centre (CDD), a platform specifically engineered to manage and deliver a wide range of geospatial data. The CDD was developed by Laboratório de Instrumentação e Física Experimental de Partículas (LIP) in collaboration with DGT.
To ensure high availability and responsiveness for high-volume data access, the platform is hosted on the infrastructure of the Portuguese National Advanced Computing Center (CNCA). The presentation will detail the system’s technological architecture, capabilities, deployment, and the practical impact of the CDD on modernizing access to the country's territorial information.
