Description

The recently launched build-up project for the EOSC Node Germany, funded by the German Research Society (Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft, DFG), accelerates the build-up of a compliant, interoperable EOSC node for Germany by driving the necessary component services towards integration readiness over the next year. Led by NFDI in collaboration with DESY, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen (FAU), Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG), KIT, RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Dresden, University of Freiburg, University of Mannheim and ZBW - Leibniz Information Centre for Economics, the project aims to continue developing and integrating the necessary federating capabilities for the EOSC Node Germany in order to contribute to the pan-European Open Research ecosystem.

Key contributions include:

  • Funded standardization of node deployment workflows, lowering
    compliance barriers;
  • Adherence to interoperability standards of the node to ensure
    cross-provider functionality;
  • Alignment with NFDI’s domain-specific needs (e.g., photon/neutron
    sciences, climate research);
  • Governance models tailored to fit the German & European research
    landscapes.

By addressing federation, security, and cross-provider integration, the project bridges pan-European (EOSC) and national (NFDI) efforts, fast-tracking EOSC adoption. The talk will highlight lessons learned, shared challenges, and the roadmap for advancing the EOSC Node Germany toward full integration.
