Description
The SKA Observatory (SKAO) is approaching first science delivery after processing massive data volumes from radio telescopes located in South Africa and Australia. To respond to this challenge, a distributed architecture of data centres - the SKA Regional Centre Network (SRCNet) - will provide scientific communities worldwide a science and computational services with efficient computational and storage. The ENGAGE SKA Research Infrastructure has enabled the first step towards a PT SRC node after the installation of the OBLIVION supercomputer, core to the HPC Chair at University of Évora, Portugal, science and technology activities. The HPC Chair/OBLIVION is meant to support computational workflows closer to data storage locations, emphasizing efficient data access strategies combining HPC, filesystem-based solution leveraging CephFS and Kubernetes service management. This shall enable science exploration via standard data access protocols and astronomical archives integrated through global IVOA services. In this talk a description of the ENGAGE SKA/HPC Chair@UE plans towards a Portuguese SRC node is made.
