Anti-neutrinos from nuclear reactors have provided many crucial results for neutrino physics, usually using solid or liquid scintillator detectors. The SNO+ collaboration has obtained the first evidence that reactor antineutrinos can also be measured using pure water as a detection medium. This result was achieved in the first phase of SNO+, when the detector was operated as a water Cherenkov detector, with a very low energy threshold. The observation is compatible with the signal expected from far away nuclear power plants, which will be used to measure neutrino oscillations in the forthcoming phases of the experiment.
