Description

With no direct signs of new physics at the LHC so far, attention has turned to subtle deviations in the interactions of the Higgs boson and the top quark. Finding such deviations requires both new measurements and better ways of extracting information from the data. This seminar will present the first ATLAS search for CP violation in the associated production of a W and a Higgs boson (WH production), together with its combination with other ATLAS measurements of the CP properties of Higgs–vector boson interactions. It will then introduce neural simulation-based inference (NSBI), which uses machine learning to estimate per-event likelihood ratios or optimal observables directly from high-dimensional event information. A phenomenological study of NSBI applied to CP-violating and CP-conserving anomalous W-Higgs couplings in WH production will be presented. Finally, the seminar will discuss how NSBI is now being used in full experimental analyses at ATLAS and CMS, including new CMS results on NSBI techniques for effective field theory measurements in the top quark sector.
