DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Joana Antunes (LIP/FCUL)\n\nGlioblastoma multiforme
is a highly malignant brain tumor with strong resistance to conventional t
reatments\, leading to poor prognosis. Improving therapeutic efficacy rema
ins essential\, and one promising approach involves tumor radiosensitizati
on with high-Z nanoparticles\, such as gold nanoparticles.\nSince the radi
osensitization effect depends on several physical and biological factors\,
including nanoparticle properties\, cellular characteristics\, and radiat
ion type and energy\, computational approaches such as Monte Carlo simulat
ions are important tools for investigating these interactions. \nIn this
seminar\, I will present the outcome results of my PhD thesis\, which expl
ored the radiobiological impact of gold nanoparticles in glioblastoma radi
otherapy\, focusing on the role of nanoparticle characteristics\, cellular
modeling\, and irradiation conditions in the assessment of radiosensitiza
 tion effects\n\nhttps://indico.lip.pt/event/2210/
